Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Depart Hometown
Depart the U.S. on your odyssey to China aboard your selected airline to Beijing.
Day 2: Arrive Beijing, China
Transfer to your luxury hotel amidst the treasures in the center of China's capital.
Day 3: Beijing (2 Meals included - B,L)
Walk in the steps of ancient emperors today as you tour the powerful Forbidden City, hidden from public view for over 500 years; and the masterpiece Temple of Heaven, the embodiment of grace and harmony. Enjoy glorious aerial views during lunch at the fine revolving restaurant, before continuing to the outstanding Summer Palace, now a favorite recreational spot for locals. The pomp and grandeur of imperial China lives on in these historic landmarks so integral to the nation’s soul.
Day 4: Beijing (3 Meals included - B,L,SD)
Take in the dramatic sight of the Great Wall, ascending to the horizon through the rugged hills of China's northern frontier. Continue to the ornate and ghostly Ming Tombs and the Olympic site (the Bird’s Nest and the Water Cube) before returning to the city for an imperial-style dinner of Peking Duck. Evening enjoy cultural performance – Kung Fu show or Peking Opera.
Day 5: Beijing/Xian (1 Meal included - B)
Your exploration of the capital continues with a pedicab tour of the pre-Revolutionary Hutong neighborhoods of Old Beijing and an ascent of the 15th-century Drum Tower for panoramas of this historic quarter. Travel by air to Xian, gateway to the fabled Silk Road that linked China with Rome, Venice, and Istanbul in ancient times.
Day 6: Xian (3 Meals included - B,L,SD)
The highlight of today's sightseeing will be an excursion to the resident army of 8000 terra cotta horses and soldiers, individually carved down to the scuff marks on their shoes. After lunch visit the ancient city wall with its Ming dynasty gates, the History Museum, and the Big Wild Goose Pagoda, one of the few to survive the wars that devastated the area in ancient times. The day will be capped by a dumpling banquet and gala stage show at the Tang Dynasty Theater.
Day 7: Xian/Hangzhou (1 Meal included - B)
Fly to the charming natural setting of Hangzhou, a silk center acclaimed by Marco Polo as a "heavenly city" of "beautiful palaces and wonderfully built houses".
Day 8: Hangzhou (2 Meals included - B,L)
The premier sights of this Song Dynasty city are scattered on West Lake, whose placid waters you'll tour today by boat, stopping to explore tranquil islands, gardens, reflecting pools and other colorful settings. Survey other highlights in town, and shop for Hangzhou's famous silks and teas.
Day 9: Hangzhou/Xitang/Shanghai (2 Meals included - B,L)
Today, be among the few travelers to Xitang, a well-preserved ancient town dating back to Ming (1368-1644) and Qing (1644-1911) Dynasty. Old buildings scatter in the area of a square kilometer. The perfect embodiment of the serene villages. Tour the stone lanes and interlaced streams where the 600-year-old town’s stories are depicted in landmark mansions and magnificent bridges resembling keys, rainbows and musical instruments. After lunch coach to Shanghai and arrive cosmopolitan Shanghai in the afternoon, known as the "Paris of the East".
Day 10: Shanghai (2 Meals included - B,L)
Your tour of this city of contrasts begins in the old Chinese quarter at Yu Yuan Gardens, dating to the 15th century. Proceed to the Art Deco and European ambiance of the bustling riverfront Bund, and then explore the innovative Shanghai Museum, the post events of Shanghai World Expo (the China Pavilion), and the enchanting Xintiande, an urban tourist attraction imbued with the city’s history and culture. Complete the day with a thrilling evening at the Shanghai Acrobatics Show.
Day 11: Shanghai/Guilin (2 Meals included - B,SD)
Fly south to the green hills of Guilin, whose ethereal landscapes have been immortalized by poets and painters through the ages. This afternoon, tour the city sights and the immense Reed Flute Cave, filled with impressive grottos, pillars, and inscriptions over 1000 years old. Complete the day with a dinner of western cuisine, followed by an entertaining cultural performance. A dinner party and cultural show by local artists complete a great day.
Day 12: Guilin/Hong Kong (2 Meals included - B,L)
A full day cruise on the crystalline Li River will immerse you in the special natural beauty of this unique area. Sail in air-conditioned comfort as every turn yields new views of towering stone pinnacles, unusual rock formations, quaint country villages, and fishermen casting their nets or bringing in the catch the traditional way, with cormorants. Return ashore in the late afternoon. A late afternoon flight will take you to nearby Hong Kong. Now a special administrative zone of China, this former British colony remains as vibrant and forward-looking as ever.
Day 13: Hong Kong (1 Meal included - B)
This morning, explore Hong Kong's unique blend of Chinese heritage and colonial influences. Travel on one of Hong Kong's oldest modes of transport, the Peak Tram, to one of its newest attractions, the distinctive Peak Tower Complex, with its array of shops, restaurants, and viewing decks for taking in the superb panoramas. Continue around the island to scenic Repulse Bay, the floating community of Aberdeen, and the shopping mecca of Stanley. The afternoon is at leisure. (join in tour)
Day 14: Hong Kong/Hometown (1 Meal included - B)
Bid farewell to China as you transfer to the new international airport and depart on your selected airline to the United States.
